Red Bulls II became MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference champions with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union II, and it was Roald Mitchell who delivered the crucial moments when his team needed it most. After a difficult first half, where Philadelphia dominated possession and took the lead, the home side was left to regroup. With the score 1-0 in favor of Union II at halftime, Red Bulls II knew they needed a lift. The second half saw a much more determined and organized performance from the team, and Mitchell’s composure and finishing ability ultimately turned the tide, helping secure the win in dramatic fashion.

Philadelphia’s first-half goal had given them a deserved lead, as they controlled large stretches of the game. However, after the break, the home team came out with a renewed sense of urgency and aggression. Mitchell, who had been working hard to stay involved, became the focal point of that offensive push. In the 71st minute, Mitchell delivered a stunning equalizer. After a quick buildup, Mitchell calmly settled the ball just inside the box, taking a moment to control it before unleashing a powerful shot that went perfectly into the top right corner. The goalkeeper had no chance, and the game was level.

Just 11 minutes later, Mitchell wasn’t done. In the 82nd minute, Adri Mehmeti sent a great pass over the top, and Mitchell took opportunity. He settled the ball perfectly, and with little hesitation, he struck the ball cleanly, sending it rocketing into the top right corner once again. It was a finish that left the crowd in awe and gave Red Bulls II the 2-1 lead they would hold until the final whistle. While Mitchell’s brace was the headline, the team’s collective response in the second half was just as significant. The defense tightened up, the midfield worked tirelessly to win back possession, and the forwards pressed high, forcing Philadelphia into mistakes. It was a well-rounded performance from Red Bulls II, but Mitchell’s clinical finishing ensured the comeback would be complete, securing them the Eastern Conference crown and a spot in the MLS Next Pro Cup Final.
